Robertson Racing Petit Le Mans mid-race
update
Robertson Racing continue to run strongly at Petit Le Mans
as an action-packed final round of this season’s American Le Mans
Series presented by Tequila Patron enters its second half.
Competing at their home circuit, the Braselton-based
outfit’s #40 Ford GT has successfully negotiated the opening
four-and-a-half hours of the 1000-mile/10-hour sportscar classic at Road
Atlanta despite being the innocent victim of numerous on-track clashes. The
team currently occupies a strong 12th place in the GT class with Melanie
Snow now at the wheel.
After failing to set a qualifying time due to damage sustained
in final practice, David Murry wasted little time making light work of the
GTC contingent in the opening stages before also breaking into the GT class
top-ten during the several caution periods that have interrupted this
year’s race.
Co-driver and team co-owner Andrea Robertson continued that good
work during her stint to keep the car in top-ten contention before handing
over to Snow.
With no less than 53 starters spread across five different
classes jostling for position on such a short circuit however, incidents
between the faster prototype machines as they lap their production-based GT
counterparts have been a frequent occurrence.
And that was the case two-and-a-half hours in when the
front-running LMP1-spec Audi R18 TDI made contact with Murry. Fortunately
the Ford survived the impact to escape largely unscathed, although the car
now bares the scars of further contact in traffic.
Andrew ‘H’ Smith, Team Manager:
“The car is running strongly and setting competitive times, especially
given the amount of traffic the guys have encountered this year.
David’s (Murry) excellent opening stint at a circuit he knows well,
coupled with our canny pit strategy, allowed us to break into the top ten.
We have always known how robust the Ford can be and it’s certainly
being tested here! Hopefully we can now enjoy a clean run to the
flag.”
